Golden Gate Salon Orchestra

Society Orchestra - Strings
Bay Music and Entertainment performer Golden Gate Salon Orchestra

Salon orchestras were featured everywhere not too many years ago, in restaurants, theaters, private clubs and in exclusive homes. Many hotels featured them for luncheons and tea-time. Sometimes the musicians would put aside the soothing waltzes and foxtrots, bring out rags and Charlestons and catchy show tunes. Listeners would smile, often get up to dance, think ahead to the big band later in the evening…

The Salon Orchestra has an extensive library which include thousands of arrangements of popular songs, performed in the vibrant, lush style spanning the 1890s to 1940s. They feature several hundred that work particularly well for strings and piano. The arrangers wrote so that leaders could add or subtract from the basic five-piece lineup at will. Their tunes sound great with three musicians– violin, cello and piano–but become better and better as musicians were added. This makes for an extremely flexible group, from a trio up to a full orchestra.

“Laura,” “April in Paris,” “Jalousie,” “Always,” “Birth of the Blues,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Blue Danube,” “Night and Day” and favorite waltzes and tangos … the list goes on and on. Feel free to request your favorites. As long as it’s from that era, chances are they have it or can get it.

The Salon Orchestra will transport you back to the days of crystal chandeliers and overstuffed chairs, potted palms, and fancy dress balls to classy soirees where guests were seen Dancing Cheek to Cheek.
